Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
